The House of Representatives of the US Congress approved the bill to abolish the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), as Farmvestnik reports with a reference to Reuters.
Obamacare will be replaced with the American Health Care Act.
In March, the bill was withdrawn from voting because many Republicans, whose votes were necessary for its adoption, refused to support it. The fears of opponents of the bill were based on the fact that millions of Americans may lose health insurance due to the American Health Care Act.
217 people voted for the reform (which is only 1 vote more than the minimum number necessary to pass the bill). No representative of the Democratic Party supported replacement of Obamacare with the American Health Care Act. According to democrats, abolition of Obamacare will result in a situation where people who need insurance the most will be left without it.
Now, the bill should be supported by the US Senate. Voting in the Senate is scheduled for June.
Republicans criticize Obamacare and claim that the Affordable Care Act resulted in increase of medical services cost and excessive governmental intervention in the healthcare sector.
According to the terms of the American Health Care Act, health insurance will become voluntary, so citizens without insurance will no longer need to pay a fine. The law also covers reduction in funding for Medicaid program.
